As more people look for new jobs in the new year, among the many areas employees should investigate with potential employers is their wellness plan. As the Jacksonville Business Journal reports, “Factor wellness benefits into your job search today and you’ll find greater wellness tomorrow.”

How to do that? Some tips:

  • “Take stock of potential employers’ wellness offerings – most notably, programs that focus on supporting you across all aspects of your life, both at work and at home.”
  • Investigate whether the company provides “robust workplace wellness programs and perks such as healthy food options in the cafeteria, free group exercise classes in the corporate gym, paid time off to volunteer within the community, and – maybe the best of all – cold, hard cash to get and stay healthy.”
  • Also investigate whether the company focuses on “total quality of life” and extends wellness benefits to “family and friends.”

According to David Coppins, president of Client Services and Member Engagement for Virgin Pulse, part of Richard Branson’s Virgin Group: ““Eighty percent of employees at companies with robust health and wellness programs feel their employer cares about their well-being, according to our own research.”
