As a prelude to the July 4 weekend — and, we hope, summer fun — we wanted to revisit some previous Wellness Works Hub posts that are particularly important and relevant:
- IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO GET FIT FOR SUMMER — HOME OR WORK. We’re approaching one month into summer… how’s the exercise going? Behind schedule? Too hard to get started? Nonsense, says the Mayo Clinic in a post titled: “Fitness for less: Low-cost ways to shape up. Want to work out but think you can’t afford it? Think again.”
- VIDEO: IMPORTANCE OF EATING FOOD FRESH FROM THE FARM. This video was published earlier this summer, as a partnership of the American Heart Association and Funny Or Die Politics. And it’s meant to address kids’ eating habits, not workplace professionals. But we think you’ll find value as a reminder that we all should watch the quality of what we eat, as part of home and work life.
- SUMMER TREND? EXERCISE IS UP. Maybe it’s the messaging. Maybe it’s the weather. Maybe it’s the workplace wellness plans. No matter the reason, the bottom line is good news: We’re exercising more.
- THINKING TO JUMP START THAT SUMMER TAN? THINK AGAIN. Winter lasted too long. Now it’s summer, and you’re thinking to jump start your tan with a quick stop at the tanning salon? Think again.
- And, as a heads up, because (ugh) winter will soon come again: HEALTH HABITS SUFFER IN WINTER MONTHS. Gallup: “As is typical during the winter season, Americans report exercising less. The percentage of adults who reported exercising frequently — for at least 30 minutes three or more days per week — fell to 49.8% in November, from 52.2% in October and from the year’s high of 54.5% in July. Fewer Americans exercised frequently last month than did in November of last year (50.5%).”
