What role can business play in individual — and collective — wellness?

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce launched its “Health Means Business” effort: “The private sector holds tremendous influence to bolster a greater culture of health in America. The Chamber Foundation's Health Means Business campaign focuses on business engagement in community wellness.”

As part of the drive, the group traveled “to ten communities through forums held at local and regional chambers of commerce. The purpose of each forum is to engage local businesses and other key community stakeholders in discussions about health, education, and economic outcomes, and to encourage increased business involvement in building healthy communities.”

The communities included:

  • Oklahoma City Health Means Business Forum
  • Orlando Health Means Business Forum
  • Fort Worth Health Means Business Forum
  • Memphis Health Means Business Forum
  • Indiana Health Means Business Forum
  • Cleveland Health Means Business Forum
  • Phoenix Health Means Business Forum
  • Georgia Health Means Business Forum
  • Los Angeles Health Means Business Forum
  • Chicago Health Means Business Forum
  • Columbus, Georgia Health Means Business Forum

In the Chicago Community Health Means Business Forum, Interactive Health President & CEO Cathy Kenworthy commented that “one of the most rewarding things any business has a chance to do is to tend to the health and the needs of individual lives, but also do something that is smart business.”
