Today we offer more insights around National Nutrition Month. Last week we published useful tips and a video from The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that covered how to eat right for one's lifestyle.

Of course, a well-run workplace wellness program also can help employees understand healthy eating as it pertains to other health concerns, including chronic health issues.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that “As of 2012, about half of all adults—117 million people—had one or more chronic health conditions. One of four adults had two or more chronic health conditions. [Further,] seven of the top 10 causes of death in 2010 were chronic diseases. Two of these chronic diseases—heart disease and cancer—together accounted for nearly 48% of all deaths.”

In New York State alone, the NY State Department of Health reports: “More than 40% of New York adults suffer from a chronic disease, and chronic diseases are responsible for 23% of all hospitalizations in New York State. Six out of every 10 deaths in New York State are caused by chronic diseases. Heart disease and cancer account for over half of all deaths in New York State.”

Given these challenges, The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics provides a video titled “Eat Right with Health Concerns in Mind.” Click on the image below to watch the video:
