Diversity & Inclusion Success Begins with Mental Health – 2020 (Actionable!)

Today you’re going to learn EXACTLY how to diversity and inclusion are influenced by mental health.

In fact, in this video, I’m going to explain why I think that mental health should be addressed as the foundation of diversity and inclusion efforts in the workplace.

With that, here’s a quick overview of what’s in the video:

Diversity and Inclusion is a popular topic that’s frequently making headlines. Companies are doing their best with diversity and inclusion training to address things like stereotypes and biases in order to make sure everyone feels included and supported.

But I would argue that something is still missing and that thing is addressing the mental health of those in the workplace. I believe that mental health is the forgotten part of D&I. And to really succeed with diversity and inclusion best practices, we need to make mental health awareness the base of it. Here’s why:

People challenges and mental health challenges go hand-in-hand
Delegation efforts are impacted by your mental health and unknown biases
Addressing your mental health helps you become more self-aware which is a key to fixing diversity and inclusion in the workplace
Fear of offending others can stem from stereotypes and biases we don’t realize that we have

There is a mistaken belief that therapists are just for those struggling with a diagnosed mental health disorder. In reality, a therapist can help in many ways as I discuss in the video.

Mental health impacts both productivity and profitability. Making sure that your people are emotionally well will go a long way in helping you get your diversity and inclusion efforts off the ground.

In short, this video will give you a few actionable ways that you can address mental health to improve D&I efforts.

Emotional Sobriety – 2020 (Actionable!)

Today you’re going to learn EXACTLY what I do to help maintain my emotional sobriety.

Sobriety is something that makes most people think about alcohol, so what is emotional sobriety? If being sober is not having any alcohol does emotional sobriety mean not having any emotions?

What does emotional sobriety mean?

Emotional sobriety is a part of emotional wellness. It doesn’t mean that you don’t have any emotions, it means that you learn how to handle and cope with the difficult emotions that people experience that they may try to cover with alcohol or drug use. Emotional sobriety is all about learning how to handle your emotions in a healthy way.

Everyone experiences negative emotions. Things like hurt, anger, disappointment, and guilt are unfortunately a part of life. And, that’s why it’s so important to learn how to recognize and address those emotions and feelings instead of turning to things like drugs, alcohol, shopping, gambling, or other escape behaviors.

It’s important to learn how to be more comfortable with the uncomfortable emotions that a part of life. In this video, I share something I do on a daily basis that helps me show up for my emotions every day. This allows me to be a more mentally healthy person for myself and others.

In short, this video I share with you one thing you can do every day to maintain emotional sobriety.

#1 Healthcare Speaker & Patient Expert 2020 (Actionable!)

Today you’re going to learn the ONE THING you should be focused on as a caregiver or healthcare worker before anything else.

In fact, in this video, I share with you the one question you should be asking yourself on a regular basis.

With that, here’s a quick overview of what’s in the video:

I’ve struggled with mental health challenges for as long as I can remember. That’s why I work as a mental health speaker and healthcare speaker and writer to help end the stigma that surrounds mental health. My life’s all about helping others. As a healthcare worker or caregiver, this is something that you understand. You probably got into the work that you do for the exact same reason – you want to help and care for others.

But it’s easy to get so focused on caring for others that you forget to care for yourself. There is a misconception that it’s selfish to put yourself first, but as I explain in this video, that’s not the case.

Putting yourself first helps you to show up better for those that you are serving. If you want to be an expert patient caregiver, it’s necessary to take care of yourself. When you are burnt out, you aren’t able to offer those you care for the same level of care. Taking care of yourself first is one of the most selfless things that you can do.

This is the message that needs to be spread around the healthcare industry and that’s one reason I find the work I do as a health speaker so rewarding. It’s what motivates me to take care of myself so I can better serve my audience working with healthcare in the speakers’ bureau, as a pharmaceutical speaker, or speaking for any other healthcare event.

In short, this video will show you why you need to put yourself and one step you can take to make that happen.
