There are two simple things that you can do to start practicing self kindness right away:
Forgive yourself.
Stick to the “good enough” rule
In this video, I share specific examples of what these self kindness tips look like in my own life.
If you’re struggling with stress, perfectionism, anxiety, or other mental or emotional health challenges, these two simple tips can help you be kind to yourself today.

It can be easy when trying to help others to end up hurting yourself along the way. You may give your time and resources that you really don’t have to spare. And you may find that you’re being impacted by negative energy from the situation.

In this video, I explain how to stop being affected by others by setting healthy boundaries.
This can feel overwhelming at first, especially if you’re worried about hurting the relationship, but it’s OK to say no to people to protect yourself emotionally and to protect your own mental health and wellness. In the long run, this will help you learn how to support others in a healthier way.

Mind Sweep Benefits: Take Control of Stress FAST! People are feeling an increased level of anxiety and stress once again. There are many uncertainties with the pandemic and the news headlines and adding that on top of the regular challenges that we face in life, it can feel like a lot to handle.
If we’re not careful and intentional, this stress and anxiety can become overwhelming and even lead to bigger mental health challenges like depression. Learning how to relieve stress and anxiety is important.
In this video, mental health speaker and corporate wellness specialist, Mike Veny, shares a simple but effective strategy that he learned about when reading the book Getting Things Done by David Allen. It’s called a Mind Sweep.
Doing a Mind Sweep is simple and something that you can do on a daily basis or when you feel your stress levels building up. In the video, you’ll learn the simple steps to doing a Mind Sweep and the benefits of doing it including how it can help you start to feel like you have some control over the stress in your life. And the best part is, there’s no wrong way to do it so you don’t have the added pressure of trying to figure out something else when you’re already stressed.

Are You Stuck In the Cycle of Mental Health Stigma?
Are you in the cycle of mental health stigma? Learning the cycle of mental health stigma is an important step to mental health awareness.
I’ve struggled since childhood with my mental health because of depression and a few other mental health disorders. Even after discovering that drumming helped me manage my depression and some of my other symptoms, the challenges continued to be there.
I eventually realized that I needed to learn how to address my mental health challenges AND the interior stigma I was wrestling with. Through my research, I learned about the cycle of mental health stigma and the negative impact it was having on my life.
In this video, I share about the three stages of mental health stigma. Understanding how the cycle works can play an important role in your road to recovery.
The cycle of mental health stigma includes:
1. Shame
2. Silence
3. Sabotage
When you start learning to recognize and address the cycle in your life, it’s the first step to breaking the hold that stigma creates.
Now as a keynote mental health speaker and Certified Corporate Wellness Specialist, I work to help others break free from the stigma cycle too.

Understanding the Unique Stigma of Minority Mental Health
There is a unique stigma that surrounds minority mental health. Don’t get me wrong, mental health in general is stigmatized, but there’s a different stigma when it comes to the black community.
We are a culture of honor. We don’t like to be disrespected. And that doesn't sound like a bad thing, but if we're not careful, it can become one of the mental health barriers that we face. When we admit that we’re struggling with mental illness or disorders like depression, we can start to feel like we’re disrespecting ourselves.
Mental health stigma awareness is crucial in empowering people to get the help they need.
In this mental health stigma video, I share about this unique stigma in minority cultures and communities. I also talk about the role that the strong black man plays in this stigma. I’ve shared about the perception and idea of the “strong black man” in a previous blog post linked below. As we address the stigma, there’s a need for us to redefine what it means to be healthy, strong, and whole.
There are also a few minority mental health tips I share that I believe are important for change, as well as a few things we can do to improve the situation for black and brown youth and the community as a whole.
