http://www.MikeVeny.com In this new segment from Fresh Outlook news, Mike Veny shares his thoughts on the 2016 Oscar Academy Awards. This highly anticipated event of 2016 had so much controversy leading up to it.

The controversy surrounded the lack of black actors nominated for awards.

In Mike’s opinion, comedian Chris Rock did the best he could to poke fun at the elephant in the room (the racial controversy), although some said he took it too far.

He also believes that Lady Gaga’s performance was the highlight of the evening.

http://www.TransformingStigma.com. In this video, Mike Veny is delivering to his Transforming Stigma into Strength speech to birth mothers of children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD).

This presentation is typically delivered at mental health events, however the Minnesota Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (MOFAS) believed that his message could help the birth moms of babies with FASD. In the spirit of transparency, Mike had some negative feelings about birth moms of children with FASD prior to meeting the people at the Minnesota Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

He soon learned about the myths surrounding FASD. One of the myths as that only mothers with alcohol and/or substance abuse problems have babies with FASD. THIS IS NOT TRUE! More than half of new pregnancies are unplanned. In fact, many women are approximately 3 months into their pregnancy before they are even aware of it. Because of they aren’t aware, they may drink alcohol without realizing they are harming their baby.

Also, many people believe that a baby will outgrow any problems caused by drinking during pregnancy. The truth is that the damage caused to a baby by prenatal alcohol exposure is permanent. Therefore, it is CRITICAL that children with FASD begin getting the help and treatment they need AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

For the birth mothers, the biggest challenge is the burden they bear for the rest of their life, knowing that the their decision(s) caused permanent damage to their child. Mike Veny offers words of support to encourage mothers to learn to FORGIVE themselves. What makes this difficult is the reality that, even if they do eventually forgive themselves, many people in society won’t.

Whether it’s Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder or mental health, it’s important that we take responsibility in transforming stigma. No one should have to live with shame. No one should have to live in silence. No one should have to sabotage, engage in self-destructive behavior, or attempt suicide.

http://www.TransformingStigma.com In this news segment on the talk show, Fresh Outlook, mental health speaker, Mike Veny addresses the correlation between gun violence and mental illness. This has been a hot topic in the media because of terrorist attacks and mass shootings.

Mike was invited to be on this show in response to President Barack Obama’s recent Executive Order on gun laws. The Executive Order includes mental health funding. Mike firmly believes that this is no correlation between the status of ones mental health and gun violence. He argues that if someone wants to harm others, then they will decided to. This is not a mental health issue. Correlating mental illness and gun violence increases the stigma surrounding mental health.

At the same time, Mike is glad that the subject of mental health is being discussed more these days. He believes that House Speaker Paul Ryan and Congress needs to support a bill for increased mental health funding. “Ulimately,” says Veny, “mental health is an a economic issue. If people are mentally healthier, they will be more productive in society. This has a positive effect on everyone.”

In this video, host Logan Crawford and him go back and forth about where to draw the line with background checks. As the show goes on, there are a variety of opinions on how to solve the gun violence problem here in the United States of America. Additional guests include Jackie Guzda, Bill Rosenberg, and Lance Simmens. Each guest offers a unique perspective on what must be done to address these issues.

What are your thoughts on the correlation between mental health / mental illness and gun violence / gun laws? Please leave a comment below.

Primordial Sound Meditation (PSM) with Sarah McLean

http://TransformingStigma.com/psm Thanks for your interest in Primordial Sound Mediation. It is a strong hope that what you see here will be very helpful to you an your personal journey. Before I start on the actual mediation, I want to discuss a few key points to meditation. These are in no particular order, but they are all of value.

Primordial Sound Mediation is the brainchild of Deepak Chopra, M.D., and he is widely considered to be an authority on mediation. In PSM, each individual has a mantra, a sound, which we were all given at the moment of our birth. This mantra is based on the sound of the Universe at that time, and the mantra is different for everyone.

Mediation is a tool. It is a tool used by people as long as there have been needs. Mediation brings peace, happiness and relieves stress. There are as many types of mediation as there are people, but the beauty of PSM is there are no difficult breathing exercises, postures, movement or external stimuli necessary to practice. All you need is the mantra.

Mantra is a portmanteau of two Sanskrit words: man – mind and tra – instrument. Mantra allows the PSM practitioner to enter their meditative state. The mantra itself is only a vehicle for purpose. The vibrations of the mantra, those same from the point of your birth, are what takes you to the necessary state of awareness.

My videos help teach you how to reach this goal. Relax; follow your mantra and take the first step. The rest will come with ease. You will likely find your mind is still working actively; this is normal. Taking note of this is important, so don’t overlook it. What you will be looking for are the gaps between thoughts – this is your space to find.

Mediation takes practice just like any activity. Give it time and enjoy the path.
