http://www.TransformingStigma.com/college Mike Veny is a well sought after professional speaker and motivator.

Already speaking on various college campuses in the U.S.

He has spoken for and with such groups as Active Minds, NAMI on Campus, and To Write Love on Her Arms.

It could be the student body as a whole, a psychology department or even counseling services.

Despite what people may tell you or think, there is no shame in admitting you have a mental illness. The shame comes from perceptions and cultural stigma, both of which can easily be dismissed with understanding and education.

“This is where I come in” says Veny.

“I help guide college students in the right direction for help.

It may be that this has been a problem all your life; it may have only recently surfaced or it could be you just have more than your fair share of issues and problems.

What you have to do first is always the hardest. This is why I am invited to speak.

I want you to recognize what is and what is not a mental illness.

There IS a difference between stress and mental illness.

There is NOT a difference in asking for HELP.

What follows are not strict guides or absolutes. These are generalized recommendations that are sound, safe and designed to help you get the help you need. Each person is different in their own way, and it is the same with mental illnesses.

It is the cusp of what will become the most exciting time in your life. It is a chance to grow, to learn and most importantly, shape the person you will eventually become – a fully productive member of society.

Follow along as we both take this journey. I am not a tour guide, lecturer or leader. I am a passenger, just like you, on the same ride to the same destination.”

Minority Mental Health Month 2020 (Actionable)

Today I’m going to talk with you about minority mental health.

July is Minority Mental Health month and 2020 has been a year full of anxiety and trauma for everyone, and even more so for those in minority communities. The COVID pandemic has hit many minorities harder than others and the racial injustice in the country has continued to add to the mental health challenges people are facing.

As a black man that has lived with mental health challenges, I want to share 5 things that I’ve observed and researched about minority mental health to help transform the stigma around it.

With that, here’s a quick overview of what’s in the video:

1. We have to talk about poverty when addressing mental health.
2. There’s a lack of mental health resources in the minority community.
3. We need to factor culture into the mental health conversation.
4. We need to look at trends and behavior to see what needs to be addressed.
5. The church can play a central role in addressing minority mental health.

In short, this video will show you actionable ways that you can help address minority mental health in 2020.

The Mental Illness Civil Rights Movement

http://www.TransformingStigma.com/programs When most people think of a ‘civil rights movement’, they immediately think of the Civil Rights Movement that took place in the United States of America between 1954 and 1968. Rosa Parks is considered by many to be the the mother of the Civil Rights Movement because of her refusal to give up her seat on a segregated bus.

There is a new Civil Rights Movement happening in the United States of America. It’s the Mental Illness Civil Rights Movement. In this country, as in many other countries, a stigma exists when it comes to mental health. Mike Veny, a mental health guest motivational speaker says that stigma includes “stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination”.

The Mental Illness Civil Rights Movement is centered around discrimination. This typically includes job discrimination and housing discrimination – complete violations of one’s Civil Rights.

In a Huffington Post article from 2013 titled, “Mental Illness as a Civil Rights Issue”, author Paul Heroux offers four potential solutions.

* Increasing investment in community mental health programs.
* Increasing public awareness campaigns that address mental health stigma.
* Increasing police training in mental health.
* Increasing civil rights legislation and protection for people with mental illness.

Mental illness discrimination is a challenge in other places, too. During a recent trip to Bermuda where Mike Veny was hired by the Bermuda Mental Health Foundation to deliver his “Transforming Stigma into Strength” presentation, he learned about some of the challenges with mental illness discrimination in Bermuda.

According to attorney Michael Hanson, The Human Rights Commission in Bermuda had 11 complaints about mental illness discrimination in 2014. Because of outdated laws, the 11 people had NO PROTECTION under the law. Government officials in Bermuda have committed to addressing it this Fall.

Whether it’s Bermuda or the United States, the mental illness discussion is a civil rights movement that will help everyone thrive.

The 2015 Haiti Entrepreneurship Camp

http://www.UnleashYourGroove.Com/2015-haiti-entrepreneurship-camp.html ‎ Most of Haiti’s population lives “multidimensional poverty,”. This means that they face constant challenges with getting their basic health needs met, an adequate education, and have poor living conditions.

“When I first arrived in Haiti, I was shocked,” says Veny. “You read about Haiti and watch news reports, but seeing this firsthand touched my heart. We have a real problem on our hands.”

In 2014, Mike Veny presented a workshop on marketing, networking and selling to the first annual Haiti Entrepreneurship Camp. Mike volunteered to teach at the camp through meeting Jan Holz at the Rotary Club of Wall Street. He wanted to use the skills that helped grow his business to help the Haitian entrepreneurs grow theirs.

The Haiti Entrepreneurship camp has a clear mission: Empowering local entrepreneurs and their communities.Their vision is to “Exchange knowledge and build relationships with entrepreneurs to turn around struggling economies and empower them to develop prosperous independent communities.”

“Everyone loves to talk about the health of the world economy,” says Veny. “Through empowering entrepreneurs in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, we are making tomorrow’s world economy healthier.”

Although the economy is steadily improving in Haiti, it’s still struggling from the destruction of the 2010 earthquake. “It’s important that we empower people before the next natural disaster happens.”

“There is so much that needs to be done,” says Veny. “This is an incredibly slow process and it’s important to understand that you may not even see tangible results from your efforts in this lifetime. However, it’s important to keep supporting Haiti, even if the results manifest long after your time here on this earth.”

The 2015 Haiti Entrepreneurship Camp will be held at Université Quisqueya in partnership with Rotary Club de Delmas-Aeroport, HelpAlliance, Devoted Servants, Lufthansa Consulting, Lufthansa Group, and local financial support.

Through Mike’s GoFundMe campaign, you help support the growth of the world economy through empowering Haitian entrepreneurs.

Top Children’s Mental Health and At Risk Youth Speaker

Also, check out this video: “Anger Management: How to Control Anger – 2019 – (Actionable!)”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUxbiqfNu8w

–~–
http://www.TransformingStigma.Com Mike Veny is America’s top youth mental health speaker. He is passionately dedicated to children’s mental health and at risk youth.

Here’s why:

Mike truly understands what it’s like to be a child and struggle with mental health and behavioral health issues.

As a child Mike struggled with mental, emotional, and behavioral challenges. He was hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital 3 times, for an extend period of time. When he wasn’t in the hospital, he was a regular patient in his local emergency room to intervene with him acting out violently and having a mental health crisis.

Whether he likes or not, he is the poster child for at risk youth and children’s mental health. In addition to being a speaker, he facilitates interactive workshops workshops and activities, including his Drum Up Your Feelings and Unleash Your Groove drumming program at youth events, schools, and conference. He is inspired by the work of other children’s mental health speakers and at risk youth speakers, like Josh Shipp and Jeff Yalden.

He sees his work as a guest motivational keynote speaker as an opportunity to help children, youth, and their families find healthier ways to live a happy life. “For some people”, he says, “this might seem possible. I’m living proof that it is possible.”

Mike believes that the solution to more success with at risk youth and children who are struggling with mental, emotional, and behavioral challenges is that we need to reexamine how we go about teaching our children. This also involves reexamining how we go about living our lives.

Although he doesn’t celebrate holidays (still a rebel), he makes it a priority to get involved in events celebrating children’s mental awareness day, week, and month. In the future, he hopes to influence policy and legislation, while helping organizations and programs obtain more resources such as funding grants.

The need for better youth services is critical to the future of our society.
