How One Firm Got 100% Participation in Wellness Program

“A Cincinnati manufacturing company expects to benefit from a push that has resulted in a 100 percent participation rate in a wellness and rewards program involving 110 of its employees,” the Cincinnati Business Courier reports.

“Richards Industries, which makes valves and steam traps at a factory on Wasson Road in Oakley, will get a 10 percent discount on the renewal of its employee health insurance from Humana Inc.”

Employees were given financial incentives to sign up for the HumanaVitality wellness program, which has reduced absenteeism and resulted in workers being more productive, Neiheisel said. Morale also might have gotten a boost.”

“The achievement by Richards Industries illustrates that workplace wellness requires a combination of ongoing commitment by the employer and an insurance program that commits resources to drive engagement among workers… For example, Richards Industries employees were able to get pedometers, which sync directly with their HumanaVitality account so the workers’ healthful walks could be verified. Smartphone apps also were used to log exercise programs.”
