Interactive Health yesterday named 156 companies and organizations recipients of the Healthiest Companies in America designation, which recognizes employers for outstanding achievements in improving—and truly transforming—the health of their employee population. This is the 10th year Interactive Health has selected winners of the Healthiest Companies in America award, which celebrates each company’s unique wellness program and its ability to achieve transformational, lasting change for employees.
The winners span nearly every industry, U.S. geography and size but are alike in their clear commitment to helping their employees make significant and often life-saving improvements in their health. These companies demonstrate their ability to impact the health of a population: honorees reached a truly remarkable 70 percent or greater participation rate in their workplace wellness program as well as a low-risk health score for their total population, based on rigorous and clinically sound health evaluations. As a group, participants in the winners’ programs showed marked year-to-year improvements.
Inspirational health outcomes achieved by the employees and spouses of the winning organizations include:
- 40 percent of participants in a high risk range migrated to a healthier state
- 45 percent of participants in a moderate risk range moved to a healthy state
- 66 percent of participants made health improvements related to their blood pressure, LDL cholesterol, glucose levels, triglyceride levels or tobacco use – helping to reduce their risk for disease
- Lower overall emotional health risk than Interactive Health’s book of business
“These achievements are striking and inspire us because winners set the bar on what can be achieved and demonstrated with validated results. A strong culture of employee health engagement creates positive health outcomes, and is smart business,” said Interactive Health President and CEO Cathy Kenworthy. “In addition to this year’s winners, there are dozens more employers that are extremely close to obtaining the designation. We look forward to inviting more companies into the winner’s circle each year. We are especially appreciative for those individuals within these winning and soon-to-win organizations that make the decision to lead effective worksite wellness programs, and the trust they’ve placed in us to be their partner in that effort.”
Of the 156 winning companies, 114 are repeat winners and 26 have sustained their incredible results for five years or more. One company – Nature’s Sunshine, based in Lehi, Utah, – has successfully achieved the designation all 10 years.
“We’re extremely proud of this accomplishment as it demonstrates our company’s ongoing and relentless commitment to health,” said Gregory L. Probert, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Nature’s Sunshine Products. “To be the only company to earn this award ten years in a row is a unique recognition, and it is great to see our employees take advantage of the wellness program and other tools and benefits we offer to help them maintain and improve their health. This recognition is a tribute to the character of our workforce, the quality of our premium products and our company mission.”
An impressive 95 percent of participants at the winning organizations took advantage of Interactive Health’s member website, which was recently enhanced to make health information more accessible, actionable and sustainable for members. Powered by the company’s proprietary ActiveEngine™ technology, Interactive Health recommends clinically sound, achievable action steps that are tailored to each member, based on their specific health status and health risk factors. Interactive Health’s data indicates that individuals who engage with the member website have a 15 percent higher rate of achievement of personal health goals than those who do not use the online tools.
Companies choose Interactive Health because they want a wellness partner that understands that wellness is an important part of their business strategy and helps them build a health-focused culture that translates into better health and lower healthcare costs. Every year, Interactive Health works with more than 1 million individuals spanning more than 3,000 clients across industries including manufacturing, professional services, hospitals, municipalities, school districts and beyond. Interactive Health clients average a 20-percent reduction in medical spend, according to an independent review conducted by Zoe Consulting, Inc.
