Today is National Wear Red Day, organized by the American Heart Association and Go Red for Women: “1 in 3 women die of heart disease and stroke each year. Celebrate National Wear Red Day with Go Red For Women on Friday, Feb. 6, 2015 to help save women’s lives. Join the movement nationwide and learn how you can honor women like you.”
Needless to say, there's a lot of excellent coverage of the event — and individual activities — nationwide. A roundup:
KXAN-TV in Austin, TX reports: “Heart disease survivor shares story on ‘National Wear Red Day’”
The Houston Chronicle reports that “Several Houston buildings will be decked out in red today to shine a spotlight on heart disease. The initiative is part of the American Heart Association’s National Wear Red Day. Many will remain lit throughout February for National Heart Month.”
The Daily News Journal (TN) reports that “TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center will join the American Heart Association to raise awareness about women and heart disease by lighting the hospital red leading up to National Wear Red Day today.”
The New Jersey Herald covers the event and reports that “according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the US. However, the good news is that it can also be preventable and controllable. There are steps you can take to help prevent heart disease and also manage existing medical conditions simply by making healthier choices.”
