We don't mean to rain on your end of summer parade, but reports are popping up around that important autumn/winter favorite: Flu Vaccines.
The CDC Foundation has reported that there is more than $87 billion in total economic burden because of flu viruses annually. Many workplace wellness programs incorporate flu vaccines and other prevention techniques into their regimes (more on this in the weeks to come!).
However right now, as a result of the potential issues, some areas are already promoting flu vaccines — and businesses might want to pay attention.
WLOS-TV in North Carolina reports: “While some think flu season is still months away, medical professionals say it's better to get the vaccine sooner rather than later.”
“Influenza, more commonly referred to as the flu, is a highly contagious, and even deadly illness. According to the Center for Disease Control, the flu season generally begins in October, with peak months from December to March.”
“So, why are pharmacies in Western North Carolina administering the shots in mid-August?”
Indeed, KARE-TV in Minnesota also reports that businesses and employees should be planning their approach to flu season now, in a post titled “Act now to schedule company flu shot clinics.”
The report states: “Business owners, human resource officers, workplace wellness coordinators, and community organizers are encouraged take action now, well before the flu season starts.”
