Get Input – “Many workplace wellness programs fail or have limited participation because the program doesn’t appeal to the majority of employees. So before you start drafting your program and looking for providers to assist you, ask your employees what they would like.”

Set a budget – “As with any new program or initiative, it is important to set a budget. This budget should be realistic based on the company’s financial condition, yet should also include enough funding to make the program meaningful.”

Make it easy – “The shorter the distance that an employee has to travel to participate, the more likely they will be to participate. Consider having parts of the program available onsite in your facility.”

Don’t leave anyone out – “Make sure that the program is setup to give all employees an equal chance at participating. If you are operating a multi-shift workplace, plan to accommodate all employees when scheduling activities. Make sure that you aren’t catering to one particular group.”

Rewards and Incentives – “Everyone likes to be rewarded and recognized for doing something well. When creating your program, include rewards and incentives to increase participation and to keep employees interested and invested in continuing with the program.”
